This is the 22nd year of our Summer Solstice weekend.  The program has being renewed and refreshed to bring BCI members a new experience. Our new start location, route and destination this year will be from Laguna Niguel to Lake San Marcos,  located 8 miles inland from Carlsbad in north San Diego county.

HOTEL:
Lake San Marcos Hotel
1025 La Bonita Drive, Lake San Marcos, 92078
Phone: 760-744-0120

CYCLING ROUTE:
Detailed route instructions, regroups & good company make it fun and trouble free! Starting from the Laguna Niguel / Mission Viejo Metrolink Station we will leave at 9AM on Saturday with a 51.5 mile ride to the hotel. Traditionally the Summer Solstice Tour is the flattest route possible; It still is, but those last 8 to 10 miles will climb inland up to San Marcos this year! (Check in is not until 3PM so do it right & take your time!) Bill & Dev drove the route & it has some rollies & downhills in the mix... and great views of the San Marcos area. For a shorter ride, knock off 15 miles & start riding from south San Clemente: Check in & load your bags on the truck at the station at 8AM, see everyone off, then drive south & park near Carl’s Jr. in San Clemente. Everyone finds their own snacks or lunch on the route. There is no SAG to sweep the course, provide food & water or flat repair so be prepared to be on your own adventure & fill up before you get to Camp Pendleton.

For those who can't join the Tour from Laguna Niguel, loop from the Hotel:
The 'Tail of the Tour' 21.5 mile loop will enjoy the northbound Tour route descent to Carlsbad past Linda's Ice Cream where the Tourists traditionally reload, and then take the Saturday route back to the Hotel. You can continue up the coast toward Oceanside and u-turn on your own to add miles, or to join the Tourists you see rolling south. 21.5 miles or more... RideWithGPS.com/routes/1055427

If you want to explore more of San Marcos, 3 alternate routes have been plotted; Saturday a 36 mile loop to Lake Hodges: RideWithGPS.com/routes/1271929
with a 30 mile short cut version: RideWithGPS.com/routes/1271789.
For Sunday a 26 mile loop is offered: RideWithGPS.com/routes/1314539

BAGGAGE
:
A trailer will be ready to receive your gear when you check in after 8am Saturday. It will be waiting, locked, at the hotel for you to unload when you arrive. Bring what you need but be reasonable! Everyone will be moving bags to find theirs, so a few small duffles are better than a big one.
