AmTrak requires advance reservations for taking on bikes and costs more with fewer options...
The Coaster runs from Oceanside to Carlsbad within 1/4 mile of the Motel6,
but is a week day commuter with poor service on weekends.

MetroLink Options:
A $10 Weekend Day Pass will cover any ride all day! (but your 1/2 priced senior rate may be less than $10 for a short hop!)

The OC Line (600's) and IE-OC Line (800's) both roll along our route from Irvine to Oceanside.
Check in with the tour & load your bags on the truck at the station at 8AM,
then catch the south bound train at 9:01 or 9:53.
Get off and start riding at Laguna Niguel to skip the first 9 miles.
Start riding at San Juan Capistrano to skip the first 13.
Get off at North San Clemente to skip the first 20 miles.
Stay on all the way to Oceanside to skip the first 46 miles... and ride through Oceanside with fresh legs!
You could also ride the first 20 miles & train from San Clemente @ 10:55 to Oceanside... & still get to lunch before the rest of the tourists and ride through Oceanside !

Coaster Options:
The San Diego Coaster has added some weekend trains!
You could train from Oceanside to the Carlsbad Poinsettia station - about 1/4 mile from the Motel 6!

Unfortunately there is no MetroLink connection for the 7:59 northbound COASTER train,
but if you want to ride down & miss dinner, Cosmic Wimpout, the sunset & the motel,
you can get trains back at 4:08 pm from Carlsbad or 5:30 from Oceanside!

If you want to short-cut on Sunday, you can catch a train to Irvine on the way North: Sleep in & have a leisurely breakfast or rise early & skip breakfast to get to Oceanside depot by 8:15 to catch a train part way or all the way back to Irvine. Ride to San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano or Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo& board to beat those last 20, 13 or 9 miles of Summer heat ! Luggage should be waiting at Irvine by Noon for those fast riders & finishing off on the 663 train
