Sign up for the Out & Back Double Metric Wimpout Century

This event happens with out all of the support & expense of a full event Century;
We hope you will be ready to ride the distance,
but since it is an out & back route you can turn back before you hit the half-way-done point.
Bring a cell phone & nurture your friends and family -
there is no SAG or support included (You get what you pay for here!)
Carry your own snacks or cash for same;
and if you make it to Bob Nugent's traditional BCI hosted food stop @ Las Pulgas,
please drop a $5 donation there for the refreshments he's hauling all the way there.

It is more fun to ride with friends, so please plan to at least START as a group at 8am,

Starting with the group will give you more company down the coast, and if you fall behind,
watch the on-coming North bound bikes & turn back (wimpout)
when you are ready to join the pack home. That's why it's called a Wimpout Century.

We will open the parking area at 7:30 - have a sign in sheet & route sheets ready by 7:45
and start those ready to go at 8.
If early you can park on Back Bay Drive street but please wait for us to open at 7:30
to get sign in sheets set out, make route update announcements & start you as a group at 8.
If you start a bit later that will be fine too:
The Medium and Long rides at 9 will go out the same way down PCH...
so you will have company all the way to Laguna with the Medium riders
and all the way to Dana Point with the Long & Long Plus riders.

Leaving at 8 should give you time to get through Corona del Mar & Laguna Beach before 9 or so..
and well down the coast before the sun comes out.
Even if you leave at dawn, the mid day heat will still get you, so join the pack leaving at 8!

Just in case, plan on riding the Freeway about 8 miles from Las Pulgas to Oceanside (and back)
if Camp Pendleton is not open to riders - and if it is open, you must show ID or will be turned away to ride the freeway.

The route will turn back at South Carlsbad State Beach; Well over 122 miles round trip...
(If you do the Torrey Pines Grade you really went to far!)
If you get to Christianitos (Carls Jr) in South San Clemente & Wimpout there,
you will have a Metric Century (100 Kilometers) done by the time you get back!
Wimpout half way through Camp Pendleton and you will have a full 100 miles in...

The Return route will come up the San Juan Creek bike path from Doheney State Beach
& over Muirlands into Irvine, avoiding the Laguna beach crowds...
following the San Diego Creek water shed to the Back Bay...

By afternoon it will have burned off and can get really hot,
so be prepared with sun screen & make plenty of water stops!

When you get back to the start, plan to enjoy the rest of the day:
Pack some cold drinks, snacks or a picnic lunch if you are not going to be riding all day...
A change of clothes & shoes, jacket for later & lawn chair for after the ride is recommended.
Hang out and enjoy the Upper Bay Celebration and learning activities as you wait for the rest of your friends to roll in...
If you are going out in a canoe or kayak, or just want to even out your biker tan,
you might want to bring a bathing suit & towel as well!
