TOUR DETAILS:
We ride 395 miles of the beautiful California Coast

WHERE IN SAN FRANCISCO do we start the tour?
We will start in Fort Mason, West of Fisherman's Wharf, at the Park Headquarters at the intersection of MacArthur Ave & Franklin St.
The San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf International Hostel (415-771-7277): http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-HI---San-Francisco,-Fisherman-s-Wharf-060001.en.htm is in Fort Mason, right near the start point. Dorm style rooms at hostels typically run $25-$30 per person per night, with private rooms also available, suitable for couples. The GCFR tour organizers have stayed in hostels and always find them to be an enjoyable, interesting experience as well as comfortable and affordable.
As a major tourist destination, San Francisco has a hotel selection to suit every taste and budget. Whatever your choice, make sure to reserve lodgings well in advance of the tour since this is a Friday night and tourist season is all year round in San Francisco.

The Hostel's private rooms were fully booked for May 1st by mid December, so if not already booked, you should make reservations now if you can to be in the SF Ft. Mason Hostel on Friday evening. One could also stay out of town and drive in to SF in the morning. Drop a one-way car in the city and take a cab, bus or bike to the ride start... Or do a Priceline bid for a room closeby for about $80...

HIGHLIGHTS include:
Multiple support vehicles
offering on-the-road snacks, luggage transfers to hotels, and rider support to anyone wishing to shorten their riding day and take a lift in the van. To ensure a first class, comfortable adventure, we have reserved THREE vehicles to support the tour:
1. A 12 passenger van to support riders during the tour, with water, snacks and on-road assistance during the day as well as shuttle service if needed. This will also serve as our Orange County to San Francisco and Santa Barbara to Orange County transit van for those selecting this option. Seating is limited.
2. A cargo van that will handle the bicycle transport for those selecting this option as well as function as our luggage van during the tour.
3. A 7 passenger mini van for additional on-road support during the tour.

Reasonable Mileage Days of 40-50 miles per day. With the exception of Big Sur to San Simeon (68 miles) all offer time to relax and enjoy, getting in early enough to explore the resort town along the way. Winter storms after the fire may make Big Sur an issue; see http://www.surcoast.com/road.html If Highway 1 is closed we may have to run inland in May...
