Utah National Parks
Bicycle Tour
June 7-14, 2008
7 nights - $650
Beginning & ending in St. George, Utah
Visiting Zion, Bryce and Cedar Breaks, with a layover day at
Zion
Camping with limited Lodging Options ~ Limited to 30 Cyclists
Greetings Cyclists,
It is my pleasure to be working with Richard Martin in presenting
to you this exciting bicycle tour through the stunningly beautiful
national parks in
my "backyard."
The tour will be six days of cycling with one layover day in
Zion area for sightseeing. The tour starts in St. George and
makes a 275-mile circle with overnight stops in Springdale, Glendale,
Bryce, Panguitch, and Cedar City. Daily cycling mileage ranges
from 40-60 miles with one 25-mile day to allow for a half day
of sightseeing in Bryce before riding to Panguitch. Richard will
be driving SAG if you need a little reprieve along the way.
The cost of this tour is $650 per person/double occupancy, with
$100 of that cost going in your name to the Guatemala Charities
supported by Richard Martin. The tour is limited to 30 participants.
To secure your place on the tour a $300 deposit is due now with a Registration Form.
The remaining $350 is due by April 15, 2008.
The trip includes two nights motel lodging
in Springdale and four nights of camping at campgrounds; four
breakfasts in camp, two lunches on the road and one dinner in
camp; happy hour each evening; maps, road cues, SAG on road,
gear transportation, and permits for national parks and monuments.
Your luggage and camping gear will be transported by truck from
one destination to the next daily. Please limit your luggage
and gear to two bags and a folding camp chair. A self-guided
30-40 mile cycling tour of the St. George-Snow Canyon area will
be available for those arriving early on Saturday.
You are responsible for the cost of your room at the host motel
Coral Hills Best Western on June 6th, &/or 7th, before the
tour, and/or 14th after the tour. The motel is allowing cars
to be parked on their property for the length of the tour at
no cost. Should you prefer a motel or "KOA Kampin Kabin"
rather than sleeping in a tent for the four nights of camping,
you are responsible for the cost of those options in addition
to the cost of the tour. (No credit for unused camp spaces) See lodging list for motels where a block
of rooms is secured until May 1, 2008. Book your rooms now because
June in Southern Utah is busy with community events.
Should you be flying into the southwest for this tour, book a
flight into Las Vegas then book a shuttle to and from St. George.
Two shuttle companies are listed below.
Should you decide you are no longer interested in this tour,
please notify me ASAP so your spot can be filled. Please feel
free to e-mail
(clucygo@skyviewmail.com) or call me (435-229-1404) if you
have further questions.
I'm looking forward to a great cycling adventure with you!

We have secured a block of motel rooms for the day the tour ends,
so if you don't feel like making the drive home until you have
had a good rest, reserve your room soon. The best price we could
get is $79+tax since this is the opening weekend for a big event
in St. George.
NOTES:
1. The tour is limited to 30 participants , with passenger van
and rental truck for luggage, food, water stops and rider support.
So, bring a comfortable camp chair. We'll have plenty of room.
2. Two nights HOTEL LODGING in Springdale, a mile from Zion Nat'l
Park entrance. Since it is often quite warm in this area, we
chose this option for everyone. Lodging
for those not wanting to camp the final four nights will be available
within a few blocks from the campsite. The weather is cooler
in the other locations, averaging 80-85 degrees during the day.
3. We are utilizing KOA Campgrounds, with
swimming pools, wonderful hot showers and excellent facilities.
Basic cabins are available in most
of the campsite locations for those wanting that option.
4. Hiking opportunities in Bryce and Zion.
With a layover day in Zion, and a short 25 mile ride from Bryce
to Panquitch, one can explore both unique parks at their leisure.
5. Daily Mileages: Five 50 to 60 mile days, one 25 mile day, and a layover
day in Zion. It won't be a flat ride, obviously, with one 30
mile, 4,000 ft. gradual climb to Cedar Breaks National Park at
over 10,000 feet on Day Six. There are some awesome scenic downhills,
(one to Cedar City drops for 18 miles) that will make up for
the climbs, however.
6. Optional Day to Ride in the St. George
area, including Snow Canyon. Lucy will design a 35-40 mile self-directed
route in this beautiful Red Rock country for those planning to
arrive early. She established the local cycling club, The Cactus
Huggers (don't you love that name) and has organized one-day
and cross state tours for the club in past years. Norm Moyer,
Jim Jacobs and I did this tour and met with Lucy in June 2007.
We enjoyed this so much, and found Lucy to be a wonderful source
of information. That self contained tour inspired this adventure.
7. The Price: $650. Of that amount, you will receive $100 tax-deductible
donation receipt(s) from our Guatemalan Charities. The $3000
we intend to generate on this tour will go toward our 2008 goal
of $20,000 we hope to raise for worthy organizations.
8. REGISTRATION:
The tour is FULL - so unless we contact you off the Standby
list (if someone backs out), we are sorry but you can not come
along!
If you are confirmed - Please let Lucy
know if you decide not to go ASAP so we can move down the
Stand By list to fill your space... Full Refund if you drop out by February 15th
