We will be staying in this charming hotel the entire 6 nights and making day trips to other towns. Granada is the oldest city in all the Americas....founded in 1452.
There will be a group dinner at Building New Hope's restaurant Cafe Chavalos this evening. Cafe Chavalos is a restaurant project that trains high risk youth to be chefs, waiters and to learn small business principles.

Day 3~1/2 day walking tour and orientation of Granada. Optional 1/2 day tour to the Isletas either by canoe or motor boat. There are over 300 small islands in Lake Nicaragua. Most are inhabited. Some of the islands are so small they are completely covered by a home and there is even a home balanced on two islands and suspended over the water in between them. The tour can include lunch on one of the small islands at the home of a family with an outdoor restaurant that serves guapote (the famous lake fish) or pollo asado (fried chicken). Or a packed lunch from Cafe Chavalos.
Day 4~ Day Trip to Volcan Masaya National Park, Masaya town and markets. We will stop at the lookout at El Mirador in Catarina Village where you can see spectacular views of Laguna de Apoyo and the valley below. Then on to San Juan de Oriente to shop for pottery before returning to Granada.
Day 5~ Day trip to San Juan del Sur on the Pacific Coast. A charming fishing village which now receives tourists from all over the world. We will stay for the sunset and head back to Granada early evening.

Building New Hope is based in Granada, Nicaragua, a Spanish colonial town similar to Antigua, on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Gail Rogers, our Guatemalan tour hostess, has offered to lead a week-long trip for a group there in early February 2008. It will be offered as a pre or post tour of Guatemala in January-February.
